
Spartans Show Fight in B1G Opening Doubleheader

MSU moves to 9-14 (1-5 B1G) while the Buckeyes improve to 24-6-1 (4-1 B1G). The series concludes with a noon meeting on Sunday, March 23 at Secchia Stadium.
Game One – #25 Ohio State 17, Michigan State 1
Senior Faith Guidry (2-4), sophomore Ava Mullen, freshman Ella Cunningham and freshman Carsyn Cassady made pitching appearances for Michigan State in game one. Cassady turned in an impressive relief effort tossing 2.0 hitless innings with three strikeouts.
Junior Kaelin Cash had a pair of singles for MSU and was joined by senior Collette Allen and freshman Sophie Holverstott with game one hits. Holverstott drove in her first career RBI in the fifth.
Ohio State scored 17 runs on 11 hits, 10 walks and three Spartan errors. The Buckeyes added 11 runs in the third frame before Cassady shut them down over the final two innings.

A lead-off double by Allen put one runner in scoring position for Holverstott in the fifth. Holverstott laced a pitch into center to drive in Allen from second and later advanced to third on a Buckeye miscue.

Game Two - #25 Ohio State 7, Michigan State 3
Freshman Jacey Schuler (5-7) went 6.2 innings in the circle for the Spartans before senior Madison Taylor entered in relief to tally the final out for MSU.
The Spartans got back-to-back home runs off the bats of juniors Hannah Hawley and Britain Beshears in the first inning. Hawley finished with two hits in the second half of the double header and Beshears reached a second time via hit by pitch. Sophomore Kendall Smiley and senior Collette Allen also contributed hits in game two with Allen slugging her second double of the day in the sixth.

Ohio State took a 3-2 lead over Michigan State in the fifth on a sac fly, but the Spartans were quick to tie things up in the home half. After a walk by junior Kaelin Cash, Allen double to the wall in center scoring pinch running freshman Hannah Herman.

Tied at 3-3 in the seventh frame the Buckeyes hit back-to-back-to-back home runs to earn the 7-3 win.
