East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State dropped its season finale to Michigan, 3-1, on Sunday at Secchia Stadium.
Michigan starter Gabby Ellis earned the start for the visitors for the second straight day, tossing complete games in each outing. She limited the Spartans to just one base hit (by Zoie Bernard in the third inning). She struck out three and walked five. Madi Ramey had a sac fly in the third after a Lauren Putz triple, and Kiley Carr had a solo homer in the top of the seventh.
Carsyn Cassady delivered a three-hit outing, allowing just one earned run in a complete game effort where she struck out three. The Spartans stranded eight runners in the game, unable to capitalize more on Michigan's four errors - back-to-back Wolverine miscues in the sixth helped the Spartans load the bases, but MSU could not get any runs across.
The Spartans conclude their season at 17-34 (3-20 Big Ten). Michigan has qualified for the Big Ten Tournament with a 33-19 record and 11-13 mark in Big Ten play. The Big Ten Tournament will be played at Maryland, beginning Wednesday.
