Softball Continues Homestand Against #25 Ohio State

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State softball continues its home stand this weekend when No. 25-ranked Ohio State arrives on the banks of the Red Cedar River. The series has already faced schedule changes due to weather.
All three games will be streamed on B1G+ with a live radio stream available via the Michigan State Athletics app where Jeremy Otto will be calling the action. Live stats are provided via StatBroadcast.

Spartans Defeat Oakland in Mid-Week Clash
Michigan State softball won its home opener on Tuesday, defeating Oakland by a final score of 7-5 in a back-and-forth contest that featured four lead changes. The Spartans improved to 9-12 overall, hitting three home runs in the contest.
Hannah Hawley was 1-for-1 with a solo home run and career-high tying three walks. Britain Beshears have MSU a 3-0 lead in the first inning with her fifth home run of the season and Collette Allen hit a solo homer down the left field line to tie the game at 4-4 in the fourth.
The Opponent: Ohio State
Ohio State entered the Top 25 rankings this week, coming in at No. 25 in the NFCA and USA Softball polls, and ranking as high as No. 20 in the Softball America poll. The Buckeyes are 22-6-1 under first-year head coach Kirin Kumar and are on a four-game winning streak after a series victory over Nebraska last weekend to open B1G play.
The Buckeyes have nine regular starters hitting over .300, with the team hitting .350. OSU posts a team OPS of 1.144 and has already hit 60 home runs this season. Jasmyn Burns and Reagan Milliken have hit 10 home runs each. Burns is hitting .500 with 41 hits through 29 games. Ohio State is led in the circle by Lorin Boutte who posts a 3.41 ERA through 65.2 innings (18 appearances).
Michigan State is 44-79 all-time against the Buckeyes including a 17-32 mark at home. MSU hasn't met Ohio State in B1G action since 2022 in a closely contested conference series. OSU took games one and three by scores of 3-0 and 2-1, while Michigan State took game two, 2-1, on home runs by Kayleigh Roper and Zaquai Dumas. Ashley Miller struck out 12 in the circle for the Spartans.
