What you need to know about Spartan softballÂ
•  Michigan State kicks off a five-game week with a pair of midweek tilts; MSU hosts Western Michigan on Tuesday before traveling to Notre Dame for a Wednesday showdown.  •  The Broncos enter Tuesday's game with a 23-20 overall record, with a 12-9 mark in MAC play.  Western Michigan is coming off a series win at home last weekend vs. Toledo. Â
•  The Irish are 19-27 overall and 8-13 in ACC action.  Notre Dame took two of three games from Syracuse last weekend, and will host Central Michigan on Tuesday before taking on the Spartans on Wednesday to open a seven-game homestand that will take it to the end of the regular season. Â
•  Michigan State dropped all three games in a series at Northwestern last weekend (0-10, 7-8, 0-8). Â
•  The Spartans are playing their first game at home since April 3, which was a weather-forced doubleheader that shortened the Illinois three-game series down to just the twinbill.  After Wednesday's game in South Bend, the Spartans will host Maryland (April 24-26) and Michigan (May 1-3) to conclude the regular season. Â
•  The Spartans have smacked 60 doubles through 43 games, tied with the 2022 team for most since the 2019 squad hit 65, which is tied for 10th place all-time in program history,  Green and White batters have also posted nine triples this season, surpassing their total from 2025, and the most since 2023 (11).Â
MSU has also drawn 153 walks this season, (3.42 per game), which is ninth in the B1G.  It is the most for a Spartan team since 2019, when MSU drew 191 free passes and ranks 10th all-time in the MSU record book.  MSU averaged just over three walks per game last year (136 walks in 45 games).  Â
•  MSU has turned 18 double plays  (0.42 per game) on the season, which ranks fourth in the Big Ten and 61st nationally. It is also tied for the fifth-most DPs in a season in program history (1984, 1994 and 2000).
•  MSU batters have been hit by a pitch 31 times this season, which is the ninth-most in the Spartan record book.  Hannah Hawley leads the way with nine.
•  Hawley and Kendall Smiley each delivered four base hits in the weekend series at Northwestern.  On Saturday, Hawley tied her career best with three base hits that produced a pair of RBI.  On Sunday, she had her seventh double of the season.   Smiley had a hit in every game (two on Saturday).
•  Britain Beshears and freshman Zoie Bernard walked twice in the three-game set at Northwestern and lead the team with 26 and 25 walks in 2026, respectively.  Bernard's five triples this season is tied for ninth in a single season in school history, and she leads the team in two-baggers (12).
•  Payton Conroy and Sophia Grillo each had two doubles in Saturday's game at Northwestern.  Conroy went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and delivered an RBI single in the fourth. Her 10 doubles is her career best. Grillo's two doubles pushed her season total to six. Â
•  Sydney Doloszycki was walked three times in Saturday's game at Northwestern, her career best.  She also delivered a double and two RBI.  The senior leads the squad with 24 RBI, and is second on the team in batting average (.313), and base hits (35).Â
•  Kirsten Caravaca threw out two would-be base stealers on seven attempts against the Wildcats.  She has nine runners caught this season, which ranks second in the Big Ten and 67th nationally.  She is two off the pace of  Zayda Rocke of Maryland, who has caught 11 runners this year. Â
 • Michigan State has seven of its final eight regular-season games at home.  After Tuesday's non-conference tilt vs. Western Michigan, the Spartans welcome Maryland to Secchia Stadium for a three-game set (April 24-26), during which it will celebrate Alumni Day and welcome back the 1976 AIAW World Series Champions to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the title.
