Spartan Men’s Drops Road Match at Vanderbilt, 4-1, Sunday

Michigan State secures the doubles point before Vanderbilt rallies in singles play.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Michigan State men's tennis concluded play against Vanderbilt, dropping a road match, 4-1, at Vanderbilt's Lummis Family Tennis Center in Nashville, Tenn.
The Spartans got on the board early with the doubles point, leading the score 1-0. In the one spot, the No. 21-ranked duo of Taym Alazmeh and Danial Rakhmatullayev delivered a 6-3 win over Vanderbilt's Pablo Martinez Gomez and Hoyoung Roh.
Seeing the court for the first time this season, Aristotelis Thanos teamed up with Mitchell Sheldon to clinch the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Vanderbilt's Danil Panarin and Jack Satterfield. David Saye and Matthew Forbes (MSU) were up 5-4 against Nathan Cox and Hugo Coquelin (Vanderbilt), but their match went unfinished.
In singles action, Vanderbilt came out victorious, winning four straight matches. Vanderbilt's Hyoung Roh defeated Aristotelis Thanos (MSU) 6-3 in the first set before the match was retired in the second.
Nathan Cox (Vanderbilt) defeated David Saye (MSU) 6-3, 6-3, while Jack Satterfield (Vanderbilt) came out victorious over Mitchell Sheldon (MSU), 6-3, 7-5. Taym Alazmeh (MSU) put up a fight against Danil Panarin, but eventually fell 6-7 (7-9), 2-6.
Competition concluded with two unfinished matches in singles play. Pablo Martinez Gomez (Vanderbilt) and Matthew Forbes (MSU) ended with a score of 7-6 (7-5), 2-5. Hugo Coquelin (Vanderbilt) and Danial Rakhmatullayev (MSU) ended unfinished with the score tied, 4-4.
The Spartans continue their road stretch, taking on in-state opponent Western Michigan on Sunday, Feb. 22. Matches will be held at the Sorenson Courts in Kalamazoo, Mich., at 1 p.m.
