Softball Wrapping Regular Season at Purdue

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State softball will conclude regular season play this weekend in West Lafayette, Ind. meeting Purdue on May 4-6. The Spartans remain in contention for a spot in the 2024 B1G Tournament entering the final weekend of the B1G slate. MSU is one game behind Maryland for the final seed.
All games from Bittinger Stadium will be streamed live on B1G+.
ABOUT PURDUE
Purdue is 25-23 overall and 11-9 in the B1G. The Boilermakers have secured a spot in the B1G Tournament for the second time in three seasons. Purdue is No. 77 in the latest NCAA RPI rankings.
Purdue ranks #193 nationally in batting average (.261), #161 in ERA (3.78), #111 in fielding percentage (.965), #134 in OBP (.356), #150 in scoring (4.25), #190 in SLG (.369) and #12 in stolen bases (93).
Khloe Banks tops the B1G in steals (22) while Moriah Polar is #2 (19). Polar is #3 nationally with seven triples. Banks leads the team with a .348 AVG and is second with a .431 OBP. Three other Purdue batters are hitting > .300 in Ashlynn Campbell (.328), Sage Scarmardo (.315) and Polar (.305).
Purdue is a speed over power team with 59 doubles, 17 triples and just 14 home runs.
Julia Gossett (3.71 ERA), Kendall Klochack (3.08 ERA) and Madi Elish (4.02 ERA) have all made starts for the Boilermakers recently. Gossett leads the team in innings (109.1), starts (16) and strikeouts (69). Opponents are batting .263 vs. Purdue this season.
PLAYOFF PICTURE
The 2024 B1G Softball Tournament is being hosted at Iowa this season, May 8-11. 12 of the 14 teams in the B1G make the tournament. Michigan State is fighting for a spot in the tournament with a 4-16 record in conference play.

SPARTANS RUN RULE OAKLAND IN HOME FINALE
Michigan State finished its home slate in style on Wednesday night, defeating Oakland by run rule, 11-0. The Spartans batted around and scored eight runs in the fourth inning to secure the win by mercy rule.
Senior Liv Grey was masterful in the circle striking out eight Golden Grizzlies in four innings of work. Grey allowed just two hits and walked none in a nearly perfect outing.
MSU's offense saw the ball well all night with four Spartans tallying multi-hit performances. Sophomore Hannah Hawley, senior Anna Fox, junior Macy Lee and junior Mik Anthony all had two hits on Wednesday. Senior Alexis Ross and sophomore Sydney Doloszycki each tripled. Anthony slugged her first Spartan home run to drive in a pair in the fourth.

MSU has hit 47 home runs through 48 games, which marks the most home runs by the program since the 2017 season (66 in 58 games). In 2024 Michigan State ranks No. 46 nationally in home runs per game (0.98).

Four Spartans hit 10+ home runs in 2017 (Lea Foerster, Kelcey Carrasco, Sarah Gutknecht, Kaitlyn Eveland). Beshears' 14 homers are tied for second all-time for single season home runs at MSU. Hawley's 12 homers are tied for fourth all-time for single season home runs at MSU.
HAULING IN HITS
Sophomore Hannah Hawley leads the Spartans with a .364 batting average, a .477 on-base percentage, a .707 slugging percentage and a 1.184 OPS. Hawley is #5 in the B1G in slugging percentage and #5 in OPS.
Hawley leads the team with 51 hits, 31 runs scored, 24 extra-base hits and 24 walks drawn. Hawley also leads the Spartans with 14 multi-hit games (five three-hit games, nine two-hit games) and is second with five multi-RBI games (Britain Beshears, 8).
Hawley is currently on career-best 13 game reached base streak and an eight-game hitting streak.
BASHING BESHEARS
Sophomore Britain Beshears ranks #44 nationally in home runs (14) and #54 home runs per game (0.29). Beshears is #4 in the B1G in home runs and her 14 home runs, which ranks tied for second in program history for a single season (Lea Foerster). Prior to Beshears, no Spartan had hit 14 home runs in a season since 2017.
Beshears ranks #10 in the B1G and leads the team in RBI with 39. Beshears was on fire in April (15 games), leading the Spartans with a .370 (17-for-46) AVG over that stretch alongside a .453 OBP and a .717 SLG and 15 RBI. Her eight extra-base hits led the team (4 2B, 4 HR).
DOLOSZYCKI DOING DAMAGE
Sophomore outfielder Sydney Doloszycki has been a bright spot in the Spartan lineup over the last 18 games, reaching base in 15 of the last 18.
Over her last 18 games, Doloszycki is third on the team hitting .321 (18-for-56) with three home runs, three triples, a double, 11 runs scored, and 10 RBI. In that span, Doloszycki is third on the team in SLG (.607) and OPS (.984), and fourth on the team in OBP (.377).
GREY-TEFUL DEAD
Graduate student Liv Grey has been among the best pitchers in the B1G so far this season. Through 137.0 innings Grey has posted a 2.55 ERA, a 1.22 WHIP and a .232 batting average against.
Grey has struck out 152 batters, ranking #37 nationally in strikeouts despite ranking #108 in innings pitched. Her 7.8 k/7 is #46 nationally.
Grey was named B1G Pitcher of the Week 3/4/2024, the eighth Spartan all time do so.
