Field Hockey to Celebrate Seniors This Weekend

The Hawkeyes are winners of four of their last five contests and have been ranked in the NFHCA Top 25 throughout the entire season. Iowa's lone Big Ten loss this year is to No. 10-ranked Northwestern.
Michigan State is 16-51-1 against Iowa in the all-time series that dates back to 1977. MSU is 7-17 against the Hawkeyes in East Lansing.
Northwestern has won two straight and three of their last five. The Wildcats moved up to No. 10 in the NFHCA rankings this week after being ranked No. 14 last week.
MSU is 24-41 against the Wildcats in the all-time series and are 10-13 against them when playing in East Lansing.
Senior Day
It's Senior Day on Sunday, September 30 as the Spartans take on No. 10-ranked Northwestern at 12 p.m. from Ralph Young Field. Before the game, MSU will honor Samantha Siegel, Amanda Robinson, Madison O'Neill, Bailey Higgins and Maddie Vann for their contributions to the field hockey program over the last four seasons.
Scouting the Spartans
Isa van der Weij leads the team with 10 points on the year (4g - 2a). Aisha Osinga has two goals and two assists. Madison O'Neill is third on the team in points with four on one goal and two assists. Kelsey Keener has three points after recording an assist against Maryland on Sept. 15. Maddie McDonough, Amanda Robinson, Makenzie Brown and Daphne Voorman each have one goal. Lia Sinisi, Maggie Cole, Bailey Higgins and Cara Bonshak each have an assist.
Freshman goalkeeper Jade Arundell as made all 11 starts in goal for MSU with a .656 save percentage and 2.75 goals against average.
Michigan State is coached by Helen Knull, who in her eighth season holds an overall record of 65-85.
Scouting the Hawkeyes
A 2-0 loss to No. 10 Northwestern on September 21 ended a four-game shutout streak for the Hawkeyes. Iowa is led in scoring by Maddy Murphy with 20 points. Murphy's 2.00 points per game ranks No. 20 in Division I. Katie Birch is second on the team in scoring with 18 points. Birch ranks No. 25 nationally with .60 assists per game.
Leslie Speight is one of the top goalkeepers in the country, ranking No. 2 in save percentage (.833) and No. 3 in goals against average (.69).
As a team, the Hawkeyes rank No. 15 in goals per game with 2.90 and No. 11 in scoring margin at 2.17.
Iowa is coached by Lisa Celluci, who in her fifth season as head coach owns an overall record of  47-37. This is Celluci's 19th season on the Iowa coaching staff.

Currently 7-4, the Wildcats moved up to No. 10 in the NFHCA Top 25 Poll this week with ranked wins over Iowa and Cal. Northwestern will play Michigan on Sept. 28 prior to meeting the Spartans.
Northwestern is led on offense by Puck Pentenga who has six goals and eight assists to her name this season. Pentenga ranks No. 13 nationally in assists per game with .73 and No. 33 in points per game with 1.82. Maren Seidel is second in goals scored with five and Kirsten Mansfield is second in assists with seven.
Goalkeeper Annie Kalfas is 6-2 in goal and is coming off back-to-back shutouts over Iowa and Cal. Kalfas owns a .733 save percentage and a 1.45 goals against average which ranks No. 20 nationally. Her .733 save percentage ranks No. 25 in Division I.
Tracey Fuchs leads the Wildcats with a career record of 130-69 in her nine seasons as head coach.
