UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Facing their fifth ranked opponent of the season, the Michigan State field hockey team fell to Penn State on Sunday by a final score of 8-0.
With a loss the Spartans fall to 4-7 on the season and 0-3 in the Big Ten. Penn State improved to 6-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play.
MSU was out-shot by the Nittany Lions 29-5 and 20-1 in shots on goal. Penn State held a 14-0 advantage in penalty corner opportunities.
Freshman goalkeepers Jade Arundell and Monique Jardell split time in goal for MSU with Arundell making eight saves and Jardell making four.
Sophomore Meredith Ross recorded the Spartans lone shot on goal of the afternoon on a late second half chance.
Emily Klingler, Anna Simon and Moira Putsch each scored two goal apiece for the Nittany Lions.
What's Next?
Michigan State is back home next week for a pair of games against ranked Big Ten opponents. The Spartans will first face Iowa on Friday, September 28 before meeting Northwestern on Sunday, September 30. MSU's game against Iowa will be broadcast on BTN with the Northwestern game being streamed on BTN2Go.
