Field Hockey Set for Top 20 Tests Against #16 Miami, #15 Louisville

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State field hockey continues non-conference action against a pair of ranked opponents during a split-weekend slate, traveling to Oxford, Ohio, to face No. 16-ranked Miami on Friday, September 4 at 1:00 p.m. ET before returning to East Lansing for the 2026 home opener against No. 15-ranked Louisville on Sunday, September 6 at noon at Ralph Young Field.
Friday's road contest will be streamed live on MiamiRedHawks.com, while Sunday's home opener will be broadcast on B1G+.
SERIES HISTORY
Miami
Michigan State holds an 18-10-1 lead in the all-time series against Miami (Ohio). The programs last met in Oxford, Ohio in 2025, where the RedHawks earned a 3-1 victory.
Louisville
Louisville holds a narrow 9-8 advantage over Michigan State in the all-time series. The two teams met last season when the Cardinals claimed a 6-1 victory on their home turf at Trager Stadium. The Cardinals have won the previous six meetings with the last Spartan win coming in October of 2009, when MSU defeated Louisville 2-1 in overtime at Ralph Young Field.
LAST TIME OUT
The Spartans opened the 2026 season and the head coaching era of Tamara Durante with a 2-0 road sweep at Pruitt Field in Athens, Ohio, defeating host Ohio 3-1 on Friday before blanking Saint Louis 3-0 on Saturday.
Junior goalkeeper Lola Munoz de Verger started both contests between the posts, stopping six of seven shots faced across 120 minutes over the weekend. She recorded three saves in her Spartan debut against the Bobcats and followed with another three-save performance against the Billikens to earn her first collegiate shutout.
Senior forward Bianca Pizano powered the MSU offense by racking up a team-best six points on three goals over the weekend, scoring in the opener against Ohio and converting two penalty strokes in the first period against Saint Louis.
Junior midfielder Mora Cavazza and sophomore forward Nina Angeli each contributed two points with a goal apiece in the season opener against Ohio, while sophomore midfielder Ellie Kendall chipped in two points with a goal in the victory over Saint Louis. Midfielders Lillian Knorr and Ella Tambroni each tallied a point apiece over the weekend, notching assists.
ABOUT MIAMI
The RedHawks enter Friday's contest ranked No. 16 after opening their campaign in Louisville last weekend. Miami dropped a tight 2-1 shootout decision to host Louisville on Friday before bouncing back with a 2-1 win over a ranked Indiana squad on Saturday.
The RedHawks offense is led by sophomore Justina Intzes, freshman Mieria Gifra and senior Lucia Ventos, who have each registered two points on one goal scored apiece.
Senior Nicky Sjouken has started both games in net for Miami, logging every minute between the posts, backstopping the defense through extra time against the Cardinals, and notching four saves in Saturday's win over Indiana.
