Field Hockey Drops Road Contest at #16 Miami

OXFORD, Ohio – Michigan State field hockey dropped its first contest of the 2026 season on Friday morning, falling 6-0 to No. 16-ranked Miami at Miami Field Hockey Stadium.
The Spartans move to 2-1 in non-conference action while the RedHawks improve to 2-1.
Miami held an 18-5 advantage in total shots, a 12-2 edge in shots on goal, and a 9-3 margin in penalty corners.
Junior goaltender Lola Munoz de Verger stopped three shots in 20:46 of action before sophomore Catherine Wolf anchored the cage in relief for the final 39:14. Wolf limited Miami to one goal while recording three saves.
After Miami built a 4-0 lead in the opening quarter, Michigan State found its rhythm and mounted its most dangerous offensive sequence midway through the second period.
Junior Lilian Knorr inserted a penalty corner in the 19th minute that triggered three consecutive looks on net, but shot attempts from sophomore Nina Angeli, junior Caro Schaefer, and sophomore Ella Tambroni were turned away by the Miami backline. Less than two minutes later, sophomore Ellie Kendall fired a clean strike on goal, forcing Miami's goalkeeper to make a save to keep the Spartans off the board.
