ATHENS, Ohio - Michigan State field hockey capped off an unbeaten weekend with a 3-0 neutral-site victory over Saint Louis on Saturday afternoon at Pruett Field in Athens, Ohio.

MSU improves to 2-0 on the season, marking the best start for the Spartans in the last four years. MSU opens the season 2-0 for the first time since 2022, when MSU started the season 3-0 following wins over with a 3-1 victory over No. 21 American, Saint Louis and UC Davis.

Michigan State held a 16-6 advantage in total shots along with an 8-3 lead in shots on goal in Saturday's contest. Saint Louis narrowly led in penalty corner chances, 6-5. Freshman goalkeeper Lola Munoz de Verger made three saves to complete her first career shutout as a Spartan, making two stops in the fourth period.

All three Spartan goals came in the opening period, with senior Bianca Pizano scoring twice in the first five minutes of action on a pair of penalty strokes. Pizano closes out the opening weekend with three goals on three penalty stroke chances. Sophomore Ellie Kendall added a third goal for MSU in the 14th minute off an assist from sophomore Ella Tambroni, marking the first point of Tambroni's career.

The Spartans continue their season next week when they travel to Oxford, Ohio for a match against Miami University on Friday, September 4, followed by Michigan State's home opener in East Lansing on Sunday, September 6 against No. 18 Louisville.
