Michigan State Track & Field Ends Jesse Owens Classic with Eight Event Titles

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Spartan track & field ended the regular season with a strong showing at the Jesse Owens Classic in Columbus, Ohio.
Over the two-day meet, Michigan State won eight events.
On the first day of the Jesse Owens Classic, the Spartans captured four event titles. In the women's hammer throw, Elle Adrian got MSU going in the right direction with a first-place finish. Her throw of 61.20m was not only a personal best, but also the No. 2 throw all-time at MSU. Jessica Stieb was sixth (55.44m), while Margaret Jones was seventh (54.75m).
In the men's hammer throw, Xavier Griffiths had a banner day. He finished top of the podium with a throw of 65.92m, which was No. 2 all-time at Michigan State.
Tess Roman earned another first-place finish in the women's javelin. She found the top of the podium with a throw of 43.09m.
In the men's long jump Michigan State went 1-2. Carter Bissell finished first (7.34m), while Andrew Harding ended second (7.15m).
Thomas Westphal returned to action at the Payton Jordan Invitational at Stanford University. In the 5000m, he ran the No. 3 time in MSU history 13:42.99.
On Saturday, Dalton DeBeau started the day with a win in the men's discus with a best throw of 55.05m. Dillon Morlock was sixth with a throw of 50.37m. In the men's shot put, Dillon Morlock was once again involved. Dillon Morlock captured first (19.87m), while Colby Morlock was second (19.15m).
Rylan Finstrom finished third in the women's shot put with a throw of 16.35m, which puts her fourth all-time at MSU. Stieb finished fourth with a throw of 16.10m
In the men's high jump, Brady Schultz set a new personal best with a jump of 2.18m. It was also the third-best result in Spartan history.
On the track, Lexy Wilson finished third in the women's 400m with a time of 55.80. In the men's race, Noah Sage was fourth, crossing the line in 48.69.
Cameron Cheetam made the final of the 100m with a time of 10.38 in the semifinal. In the final, he finished third with a time of 10.47.
Timothy Cherry was atop the podium in the 800m. He set a new personal-best with a time of 1:48.65, which was No.4 all-time at Michigan State. In the 3000m steeplechase, Andrew Nolan was second with a time of 8:51.23.
The Spartans now prepare for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska, May 15-17.
