Softball Starts Homestand Against Notre Dame, Washington

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State returns to Secchia Stadium for four games this week starting on Tuesday, April 15 against Notre Dame for the final non-conference game of the season. New B1G member Washington comes to East Lansing for the first time ever this weekend for a three-game series on April 18-20.

Michigan State is coming off a 1-2 weekend on the road against Illinois last week in a battle of two teams fighting for a spot in the 2025 B1G Tournament.

The Spartans chipped away at the Illini lead in game one trailing 6-4 late but Illinois pulled away for a 12-4 win in five innings. Michigan State bounced back in game two behind two home runs and five RBIs off the bat of junior Sydney Doloszycki, winning 7-5. MSU led 4-2 entering the seventh inning in game three but Illinois hit back-to-back home runs to win 5-4.

Sophomore Hannah Greer hit .600 in the series going 3-for-5, adding three walks and a hit by pitch for a .778 OBP. Junior Kaelin Cash hit .400 and led the team with four hits in the series.

The Opponents: Notre Dame and Washington
Notre Dame is 19-24-1 this season under first year head coach Kris Ganeff. Played at and graduated from Notre Dame in 1999 and has been on staff for the Fighting Irish since 2001. The Fighting Irish have lost three-straight entering Tuesday's meeting falling three times to then No. 12-ranked Virginia Tech in ACC play.

Addison Amaral leads Notre Dame hitting .379 followed by Sydny Poeck's .330 batting. Amaral leads the Fighting Irish with 47 hits, 16 extra-base hits (nine doubles, seven home runs), 36 RBIs, 24 walks and a .487 on-base percentage. Notre Dame is hitting .276 as a team. Micaela Kastor leads the Fighting Irish in innings pitched (87.1) along with a 4.81 ERA. Kastor is followed by Kami Kamzik's 4.50 ERA over 74.2 innings of work. Brianne Weiss (59.0 IP) and Shannon Becker (55.2 IP) have seen most of their work come out of the bullpen.

MSU is 1-12 all-time against Notre Dame dating back to 1993 and is 1-6 when playing in East Lansing. Michigan State has lost seven straight to the Fighting Irish with its last victory coming on April 6, 1995 (4-0). This is the third consecutive season that MSU has faced Notre Dame with the sides also meeting in fall ball action.

Washington is 29-12 and 7-5 in the B1G coming off a three-game series loss to UCLA last weekend. Prior to that the Huskies swept three games over Wisconsin. Head Coach Heather Tarr is in her 21st season leading Washington.

Freshman Alexis DeBoer is hitting .367 with a team-high 15 home runs and 46 RBIs this season. Other .300+ hitters include Ava Carroll (.359) and Jadyn Glab (.325). Glab is second on the Huskies with 11 home runs and 30 RBIs. Washington boasts a three-deep pitching staff with Morgan Reimer (13-5. 2.62 ERA), Sophia Ramuno (7-4, 2.29 ERA) and Stevie Hansen (7-2, 2.44 ERA). Their 2.66 team ERA ranks No. 29 nationally and fourth in the B1G.
