
Softball Defeated in Extras, Drop Home Opener

Michigan State moves to 13-20 (1-6 B1G) while Indiana improves to 24-12 (1-6 B1G).
Senior Liv Grey (9-9) was fantastic through seven frames, allowing just one earned run and striking out eight in regulation. Grey finished the day with nine punch outs, allowing four earned runs on seven hits. Juniors Madison Taylor and Faith Guidry also recorded outs in the eighth.
Sophomore's Britain Beshears and Sydney Doloszycki each finished the day with a pair of hits, with Doloszycki also walking to reach base three times. Both tallied one of MSU's two RBIs. Junior Macy Lee and sophomore Hannah Hawley reached base once with Hawley doubling in the first. Seniors Anna Fox and Alexis Ross drew walks, and senior Jenae Wash reached on a hit by pitch.
It was Michigan State that opened the scoring in this one taking a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. After Hawley's lead-off double, Fox walked and Lee's fly out moved both runners into scoring position. Beshears took advantage of the runners on second and third, depositing a ball into shallow center that scored Hawley.

Indiana didn't waste any time responding as Sarah Stone's first home run of the day tied the game at 1-1.

Grey would surrender just four hits over the next five frames, striking out two batters in each of the fourth, fifth and seventh innings.

Stone once again came up clutch for the Hoosiers, hitting her second home run of the day, this one of the three-run variety, in the eighth inning to put Indiana ahead 4-1. With two outs on the board, an RBI single and a double steal plated two more runs for IU.
Looking to respond in the home half of the eighth, Michigan State attempted to rally with two outs. Beshears doubled down the right field line and was later driven in by Doloszycki to cut Indiana's advantage to 6-2. Doloszycki advanced to third on
