Softball Falls in Closely Contested Battle to NC State

COLUMBIA, S.C. – Michigan State softball was defeated in a tightly contested game three at the Garnet & Black Invitational on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-1 to NC State at Carolina Stadium at Beckham Field.
The Spartans move to 12-12 in the non-conference portion of their schedule with two games remaining prior to the start of B1G action. MSU has already matched its win total from the 2023 campaign with 12 victories.
Senior Liv Grey (8-5) struck out six batters over four innings of work, allowing a pair of earned runs. Grey was relieved by junior Madison Taylor who pitched the final two innings of Saturday's contest. Taylor allowed just a single unearned run before sending the Wolfpack down in order in the bottom of the sixth.
Sophomore Sydney Doloszycki had the lone hit of the day for Michigan State, a solo homer that curved around the left field foul pole in the fourth inning. It was Doloszycki's fourth long ball of the season.
NC State struck first, executing a double steal to perfection to take a 1-0 lead over the Spartans in the opening inning. The Wolfpack extended that advantage to 2-0 with a lead-off home run in the second.
Doloszycki's home run cut that deficit in half for the Spartans in the fourth inning as Michigan State looked to swing the momentum.
A series of errors led to an additional Wolfpack run in the fifth, but a slick inning-ending 6-4-3 double play by the Spartans prevented further damage.
NC State's Aisha Weixlmann twirled a gem in the circle striking out nine in a complete game one-hitter.
