From the Point ...Â
What you need to know about Spartan Hockey
Â
•  Michigan State hosts Windsor in an exhibition tilt on Friday at Munn Ice Arena. Â
•  The Lancers come to East Lansing with nine games under their belt, all against other Canadian universities, and own a 2-7 record on the season.  MSU is the lone US college team on its schedule this season. Â
•  The Spartans are currently 3-1-0 on the season, with an opening-weekend sweep at Lake Superior State and a split with No. 2 Boston College last weekend (0-3, 4-3).  MSU has one more October non-conference series at Canisius (Oct. 25-26) before beginning Big Ten play in November. Â
•  Last Saturday was MSU's 600th victory at at Munn Ice Arena.  Celebrating its 50th anniversary in 2024-25, Munn has hosted 955 Spartan games, and MSU holds a 600-282-73 record in its home facility all-time.  Members of the 1974-75 Spartan hockey team – the first team to play at Munn - were on hand for the weekend festivities to kick off the anniversary year.  Â
•  Junior transfer Charlie Stramel was named the Big Ten Third Star of the Week after the BC series.  Stramel contributed a pair of goals to MSU's Saturday 4-3 victory  - he scored MSU's first goal of the game and then came back and scored a second to tie the game at 3-3 in the second period.  He blocked two shots in the game (three on the weekend) and won 13 of 17 faceoffs (76.5%) as the Spartans rebounded after a Friday night setback.Â
•  Stramel's two goals served as his first multiple-goal game of his collegiate career.  Stramel totaled three goals last year as a sophomore at Wisconsin.Â
•  Daniel Russell's second-period score in the Saturday win over BC was his third goal of the season, and he is now tied with Isaac Howard for the team lead in goals (3).  Each of his goals have been the game-winners this season for the Spartans; Russell and Isaac Howard are tied for second in the Big Ten in goals. Â
Â
• Howard had his third multiple-point effort in four games with his pair of assists (both on Stramel goals) last Saturday.  He leads MSU and is tied for the Big Ten lead in points with a 3-4-7 scoring line.
Â
•  Trey Augustine had a season-high 32 saves in the Saturday win over BC.  He had 25 in each game at Lake State and 26 in Friday's game.  He currently leads the nation with 108 saves and is fourth nationally with a .931 save percentage. Â
• Several Spartans picked up their first points of the season on assists in the second game of the BC series:  Gavin O'Connell, Tanner Kelly, David Gucciardi, and Karsen Dorwart.  Red Savage had his first goal of the season in that game as well.
• A total of 11 Spartan hockey regular-season games will air on Big Ten Network in 2024-25.  One game each of MSU's series at Wisconsin and Minnesota in December will be shown live, as well as five of 10 games played in the month of January and three of six in the month of February.  With the exception of games at Notre Dame (Peacock), all non-televised Big Ten games will air on BTN+.Â
•  The Spartans head back out on the road next weekend with a series in Buffalo against Canisius.  MSU returns home for back-to back B1G series against Ohio State (Nov. 8-9) and Notre Dame (Nov. 15-16).
