Andy Contois (CON-toys) arrives in East Lansing in 2026-27 with a wealth of hockey coaching experience, including stops at Northern Michigan (NCAA), the Youngstown Phantoms (USHL) and the Indy Fuel (ECHL).

Contois returned to Northern Michigan, his alma mater, ahead of the 2024-25 season, spending the last two seasons on staff with the Wildcats under head coach Dave Shyiak as an assistant coach.

Prior to his return to NMU, Contois spent three seasons as associate head coach of the Youngstown Phantoms, where he coached 20 NHL draft picks and helped the Phantoms to the organization’s first Clark Cup title in 2022-23. Youngstown posted a 100-61-16-9 record over his three years on staff.

Contois served as an assistant coach for the ECHL’s Indy Fuel for two seasons from 2019-21, aiding the Fuel to a playoff berth in 2020-21. During his two seasons in Indy, the Fuel led the league in AHL call-ups.

Additional coaching stops for Contois include his time as an assistant coach for the Central Illinois Flying Aces (USHL - 2017-19) and Brookings Blizzard (NAHL - 2015-17).

As a player, Contois spent the 2001-02 season at Lake Superior State, where he was a teammate of Nightingale’s. Contois later played four seasons at Northern Michigan, posting 97 points over 131 games played, leading the Wildcats in goals during the 2004-05 and 2005-06 seasons. He was named an alternate captain in 2005-06.

Contois concluded his playing career after 10 professional seasons spanning the globe, playing three seasons in the ECHL before stops in Finland, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Scotland, Hungary and the Netherlands.
