What you need to know about Spartan Hockey
• Michigan State wraps a four-game homestand at Munn Ice Arena when it welcomes No. 10/11 Ohio State for a two-game series.  MSU leads the all-time series by a 94-54-13 margin, which includes a 46-22-7 record in games played in East Lansing.  Steve Rohlik is in his 10th year as the head coach at Ohio State, with a 169-129-37 record.  The Buckeyes are 7-2-1 on the season with a split  against Minnesota and a sweep of Wisconsin for a 3-1-0 mark in Big Ten play, one point ahead of the Spartans. Â
• Michigan State is continuing its a month-long "Spartan Hockey Strong" campaign that will put a spotlight on cancer awareness and honor those who have been affected by the disease.  In addition, Friday's game will be Military Appreciation Night at Munn as well as a collection for the Student-Athlete Food Drive.  MSU will have a Military Honor Chair Dedication, representing the  estimated 81,000 American soldiers unaccounted for since WWI, and making sure that they will always have a seat waiting for them at Munn Ice Arena.  The food drive donations of non-perishable food  and personal care items will go to the Greater Lansing and MSU Food Banks.  Â
 •  The Spartans are coming off a commanding sweep of Wisconsin, (5-0, 5-1).  The 10 goals were the most in a Big Ten series for MSU since a sweep of Minnesota on Jan. 19-20, 2019 (5-3, 5-3).  It was also the fewest goals allowed in a B1G series since the Spartans blanked the Badgers by twin 3-0 scores on March 6-7, 2015.  MSU recorded its first Big Ten sweep of the season and first since sweeping the Badgers at home in November 2021 (3-2, 5-2).
•  Erik Middendorf had a four-goal effort in last Friday's game vs. Wisconsin, MSU's first four-goal performance since January of 1998 when Sean Berens scored four times in a 6-1 win over Northern Michigan.  This week's Big Ten Third Star of the Week, he is the only player in the country to net four or more goals in a game this season. He ranks 10th in the Big Ten in goals (4). Â
 Â
•  Nash Nienhuis had two assists in each game vs. Wisconsin, his second and third multiple-point outings of the season.  Nienhuis boasts a 2-8-10 scoring line, sharing the team lead in helpers (with Daniel Russell),and ranking fourth with a +5.  He is third among B1G defensemen in scoring, and his eight assists is tied for third overall in the Big Ten and 26th nationally. Â
•  Dylan St. Cyr was named the Big Ten First Star of the Week on Tuesday.  He turned away 88 of 89 shots against in the Wisconsin series, boasting a season-best 44 saves in each game and posting his first shutout of the season on Friday.  He leads the Big Ten with a .938 save percentage overall (sixth nationally), and is third (12th nationally)  with a 1.89 GAA.
