STATISTICS OF NOTEÂ Â Â Â Â
Â
First Period:  For the first time this season, the Spartans got on the scoreboard first – Jeremy Davidson forced a turnover at in the defensive zone and got it to Nicolas Müller, who carried it up the right wall and over the offensive blueline. Müller's shot from the top of the right circle went off the stick of the defenseman in front and past goalie Vinnie Purpura for a 1-0 lead. With the teams skating four-on-four five minutes into the period, Isaiah Fox sprung loose for a breakaway, and buried it to knot the score at 1-1.  MSU outshot its visitors 11-4 in the period.
 Â
Second Period:  MSU struck early in the second period, going up 2-1 on a David Gucciardi strike. Zach Dubinsky won the faceoff in the left circle back to Nash Nienhuis at the point, and he saucered it over to Gucciardi in the high slot. The sophomore's shot found its mark, and the Spartans regained the lead. Late in the period, Dylan St. Cyr made a pair of impressive saves to keep the game a one-goal affair, but MSU pushed the lead to 3-1 on the ensuing trip into the offensive zone when Karsen Dorwart and Jagger Joshua broke into the zone on a 2-on-1, and Dorwart one-timed the feed from his senior winger for his first collegiate tally.
Â
Third Period: MSU started the period on the penalty kill and gave the Sharks another man advantage with six minutes expired on a too many men call.  The Spartans had a 9-6 edge in shots in the final frame, but neither team found the back of the net. LIU pulled its goalie for the final minute-plus in an effort to pull closer, but MSU held on without allowing another goal and took the Friday night victory, 3-1.Â
