What you need to know about Spartan Hockey
• Michigan State welcomes UMass-Lowell to Munn Ice Arena for a Thursday-Friday series this week.
 • There will not be a television broadcast for either game, but both will have a webstream. Both games will stream on B1G+ ($).  Links for all webstreams are on the schedule page of MSUSpartans.com
• Scott Moore and Rob Woodward reunite for an 18th season to call Spartan hockey for the Spartan Media Network.  The Thursday game will air live on WVFN 730 AM, while Friday's game will run on WJIM 1240 AM.  Both games will be carried on the web via MSUSpartans.com.
•  Michigan State welcomes back the 2007 National Championship team to East Lansing on Friday for a 15-year reunion.  That team went 26-13-3 on the year, and defeated Boston College 3-1 in a dramatic victory in which Justin Abdelkader broke a 1-1 tie with 18.9 seconds left in regulation.Â
•  UMass-Lowell, under the direction of head coach Norm Bazin, is 2-1 on the season after splitting a pair last weekend at home with Miami (1-3, 4-2).  Bazin is in his 12th season behind the bench at his alma mater, and owns a 238-131-36 overall record as the head coach of the River Hawks. Â
•  The teams are meeting for the second straight season and for the 13th and 14th times in series history.  Last year, the teams skated to a 2-2 tie on Friday before the home team took a 4-0 victory on Saturday.  Lowell is 3-1-0 in the last four meetings of the teams dating back to the 2013 season; MSU's last win came in the second game of a two-game set in 2008 at Munn Arena.  Â
In the 2-2 tie last October, David Gucciardi had his first collegiate goal, and Jeremy Davidson also scored a goal on the PP. Â Pierce Charleson made 27 saves in the second game. Â
•  The Spartans are coming off a split of a home-and-home series with Bowling Green, with each team winning on the road.  MSU fell 3-1 on Friday, but rebounded with a 2-1 victory on Saturday.  In Friday's game, the Spartans fell behind 1-0 just under 90 seconds into the second period,  but tied things up on a Daniel Russell goal just 20 seconds into the third period.  Ryan O'Hara put the Falcons back on top just over a minute later, and added an empty-netter for the final 3-1 score.  Dylan St. Cyr made 26 saves, allowing two goals.   The Saturday rematch in Bowling Green saw the home squad go up just over five minutes into the contest - O'Hara scored his third of the weekend and the first goal for the Falcons at home this year.  Tiernan Shoudy scored at 2:50 of the second, potting his first collegiate goal.  Russell scored his second of the weekend at 16:15 on the power play, giving the Spartans the win and split of the non-conference series. Â
•  Adam Nightingale picked up his first career victory in his second game behind the bench.  Two previous Spartan mentors (Amo Bessone and Ron Mason) each won their MSU coaching debut, and Nightingale joins Rick Comley, Tom Anastos, and Danton Cole in winning the second games of their tenure.  John Kobs needed seven games (and into his third season) to pick up his first career win. Harold Paulson was the head coach when the Spartan program was revived in 1950 after a 15-year hiatus, and needed until the first game of his second season to earn his first win. Â
• Jagger Joshua and Nicolas Müller each skated in their 100th career games on Saturday at Bowling Green. Müller had an assist on Russell's game-winner on the power play, and Joshua had an assist on Russell's Friday goal at Munn. Â
•  Zach Dubinsky won 19 of 23 faceoffs in the two games against Bowling Green (.826), the second-best success rate of any player in Division I this season. Â
Â
•  Nash Nienhuis had assists on both of Daniel Russell's goals last weekend, and is tied for first in points with the freshman winger.  Â
•  Dylan St. Cyr played both games in the Spartan net last week.  He had 26 saves on Friday with two goals allowed, and then turned away 16 shots on Saturday in earning his first MSU victory.  Among active Division I players, St. Cyr ranks fifth in goaltender wins (27), sixth in GAA (2.06), fourth in save percentage (.926) and third in shutouts (10).
