Late Goal Stuns Spartans Against Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- After holding Indiana scoreless for 65 minutes on Friday, October 5, the Michigan State field hockey team fell to the Hoosiers by a final score of 1-0. A late goal by Indiana's Taylor Swope spelled defeat for the Spartans.
Michigan State falls to 4-10 on the season and 0-6 in Big Ten competition. Indiana improved to 3-9 on the year, earning their first conference victory of the season.
The two sides were dead even in shots at 11 overall and three shots on goal apiece. Michigan State held a 5-3 advantage on penalty corners attempted.
Freshman goalkeeper Jade Arundell made two saves and allowed the lone goal to Indiana. Hoosier goalkeeper Sachi Ananias made saves on each of MSU's three shots on goal.
Junior Meredith Ross, freshman Daphne Voorman and freshman Isa van der Weij each had shots on goal for the Spartans. Ross and van der Weij matched for the team-high in total shots with three each.
After nearly 65 scoreless minutes of field hockey, Indiana finally broke the stalemate with a goal in the 65th minute. Taylor Swope drove into the circle and slotted a ball past Arundell for her second goal of the season.

Michigan State heads south for a contest with No. 9-ranked Louisville. The Cardinals are currently 9-3 this season and are winners of three-straight after dropping a game to Wake Forest on Sept. 21 by a final score of 4-2.
Erica Cooper leads the team in scoring with 14 points on seven goals. Coopers seven goals have come on just 10 shots this season. Bethany Russ follows closely behind with 13 points on six goals and one assist. Katie Walsh leads the team in assists with six. Ayeisha McFerran owns a 1.24 goals against average and has saved .706 percent of shots faced.
