
Spartans Set for Clash Against Hoosiers

Michigan State owns a 19-3 all-time advantage over Indiana and have won four of the last five meetings. The Spartans are 9-6 all-time against Louisville.
Last Time Out
Two days after holding No. 13-ranked Iowa scoreless through the first half, the Michigan State field hockey team did the same against No. 10-ranked Northwestern on Sunday, September 30. Despite improvement on the defensive side of the ball, the Spartans came up short against the Wildcats, falling by a final score of 2-0 at Ralph Young Field.
In what MSU head coach Helen Knull described as a "complete game effort," the Spartans allowed just two goals (both coming via penalty corner) in the second half of play. Freshman goalkeeper Jade Arundell turned in one of her best performances of late making nine saves on 11 shots faced.
Scouting the Spartans
Isa van der Weij leads the team with 10 points on the year (4g - 2a). Aisha Osinga has two goals and two assists. Madison O'Neill is third on the team in points with four. O'Neill earned three of those points against Central Michigan as she had a hand in both goals. Kelsey Keener has three points after recording an assist against Maryland. Maddie McDonough, Amanda Robinson, Makenzie Brown, and Daphne Voorman each have one goal in 2018. Lia Sinisi, Maggie Cole, Bailey Higgins, and Cara Bonshak each have an assist.
Robinson leads the team with two defensive saves, McDonough and Brown each have one.
Freshman goalkeeper Jade Arundell owns a 2.079 goals against average and a .673 save percentage through nine games. Arundell's 5.85 saves per game ranks No. 19 in all of Division I.
Michigan State is coached by Helen Knull, who in her eighth season holds an overall record of 66-88.
Scouting the Hoosiers
The Hoosiers enter Friday's contest at 2-9 with an 0-4 mark in Big Ten play. Indiana has been outscored 12-2 in conference games thus far. Kelsey Giese and Ciara Girouard are tied for the team-high in points with two goals and two assists apiece. Giese and Girouard have combined to take 53 of the teams 107 shots. Claire Woods and Bente Buwalda have each scored twice.
Sachi Ananias started in goal for the Hoosiers in their most recent game against Michigan, but has split time with fellow freshman Shelby Querry in 2018. Ananias has a 2.43 goals against average and a .632 save percentage in 404 minutes of time in the cage.
In her fourth season at Indiana, Amanda Janney Misselhorn owns a career record of 139-138 which includes a 10-year stint at Temple where she amassed an 114-94 record.

Erica Cooper leads the team in scoring with 14 points on seven goals. Coopers seven goals have come on just 10 shots this season. Bethany Russ follows closely behind with 13 points on six goals and one assist. Katie Walsh leads the team in assists with six.
Ayeisha McFerran owns a 1.24 goals against average and has saved .706 percent of shots faced. Her 1.24 goals against average ranks No. 13 nationally and her save percentage ranks No. 37. McFerran has four shut-outs in goal this season.
Justine Sowry is in her eighth season as head coach of the Cardinals after a stint with UMass., owning a 161-83 record for her career.
