East Lansing, Mich. - The Michigan State hockey team suffered a heartbreaking 1-0 loss in overtime against Ferris State on Saturday evening at Munn Ice Arena. The game-winner came with 1:06 remaining in the extra period, as a shot from the point went off the stick of an MSU defender at the hash marks and into the back of the net.

"Both goalies really played great tonight," said head coach Rick Comley after the contest. "Obviously, we have to continue to work to find an offensive punch and get some more scoring than we've gotten. Ferris played a good road game, and was probably a little better than they were last night.
"I feel really bad for Drew Palmisano, because he was outstanding," continued Comley. "The goal was a fluke, and it shouldn't take away from the excellent game he played."
The unfortunate ending put a premature end on what was a tight contest, where both goaltenders were strong and didn't allow much in the way of second chances in front of the nets. The winner, from the stick of defenseman Chad Billins, ricocheted off the shaft of the stick of a Spartan defenseman in the slot and fluttered into the back of the net.
The game was not full of quality scoring chances, as both teams locked down defensively and limited much of the offense their opponents tried to generate. The Bulldogs had a slight edge in shots (31-28), and the two squads were a combined 0-for-7 with a man advantage in tonight's contest.
Michigan State now turns its attention to next week's Big Chill at the Big House, the outdoor game at Michigan Stadium against the archrival Wolverines which is expected to draw a world-record crowd of approx. 110,000 fans.
NOTES: Michigan State is now 0-2-3 in over time this season ... Drew Palmisano made 62 saves on 65 shots in the weekend set (.953, 1.46 GAA) ...
