Spartan Track & Field Racks Up First-Place Finishes in a Pair of Meets

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State track & field used a split squad weekend to capture seven first-place finishes at the Wake Forest Invitational and the Big Red Classic.

Thursday Results
Kate Stewart-Barnett highlighted Thursday night's action with a stellar performance in her first 3000m steeplechase of the season. Stewart-Barnett finished first in the steeplechase with a time of 9:45.52, which was the fastest time in the NCAA so far this season. Sophia Lucki was 11th with a time of 10:26.21.
In the 800m Open 10, Sarah Forsyth finished third (2:08.19), while Sydnee Sinn was fifth (2:08.80).
In the women's 5000m Open, Anjali Kidambi finished fifth, crossing the line in 17:09.89, which was a new personal best. Megan Germain was eighth with a time of 17:13.74.
Friday Results
 On Friday in the 1500m open, Owen Gilbert finished second in the Open 7, crossing the line in 3:44.27. Matthew Schroff also set a new personal best in the Open 5, finishing in 3:46.79.
In the women's 1500m Invite Four, Olivia Millen was third (4:15.83), while Sarah Forsyth was sixth (4:21.58).
Timothy Cherry was outstanding in the 1500m Invite Four with a new personal-best time of 3:38.73. He was just shy of the Morgan Beadlescomb's school-record time of 3:38.22 set in 2022, making it the second-best time in MSU history. In the 1500m Invite One, Thomas Westphal was fifth with a time of 3:44.65.
On the women's side, the Spartans had a pair of personal bests in the 5000m Invite. Chloe Wall stretched her limits with a PR (16:41.41). Meghan Beute had a personal best with a time of 16:49.75.
Riley Hough had a new season best in the 5000m Invite with a time of 13:49.35. Michael Hegarty had a new personal best, crossing the line in 14:06.56.

Friday Results
The field athletes and sprinters took center stage in Lincoln on Friday. All-American Elle Adrian got the Spartans going with a second-place finish in the hammer throw. She achieved her longest throw of 60.89m on her fifth attempt.
Carter Bissell continued his strong season with a second-place finish in the long jump with an outdoor PR (7.50m).
In the women's long jump, Leila Barmore finished second with a jump of 5.91m. She had the top collegiate mark. Gabrielle Jeffries was fifth with jump of 5.82m.
On the track, Cameron Cheetam finished first in the men's 200m with a time of 20.93, which was a new PR. Andrew Novak was fourth, crossing the line in 21.92. In the women's 200m, Lexy Wilson took second in a time of 24.59.
Saturday Results
The Spartans had a productive day on the track on the final day of the Big Red Classic. The men's 4x100m team of Andrew Harding, Andrew Novak, Carter Bissell and Cheetam finished first with a time of 40.84.
Michigan State picked up a pair of victories in the 400m. Lexy Wilson finished first in the women's 400m with a time of 55.14. Noah Sage followed that with a win in the men's 400m, crossing the line in 47.36. Alex Yon was third with a time of 48.61.
In the men's 100m, Cheetam earned his third win of the weekend in the 100m. He set a new personal best (10.36). Harding finished third, crossing the line in 10.53.
Michigan State also found success in the field events. Dalton DeBeau finished second in the men's discus with a throw of 59.29m. It was a new personal best and the third-best time in MSU history. Dillon Morlock finished second in the men's shot put (19.82m), while Colby Morlock was fourth (18.32m).
Leila Barmore captured a second-place finish in the triple jump (12.38m).
Michigan State is back in action next week at the Penn Relays and the Grand Valley Extra Weekend Meet.
