What you need to know about Spartan softballÂ
•  Michigan State continues a six-game road swing with three Big Ten games at Northwestern. The games will be played at the Ballpark at Rosemont.  All three games will have webstreams on B1G+. **Please Note Time Change to 7 pm ET/6 pm CT on Friday** •  The Spartans are playing their final Big Ten road series this weekend and have previously played at UCLA, Ohio State, and Rutgers.  MSU has two home series remaining, against Maryland and Michigan. Â
•  MSU has drawn 145 walks in 40 this season, (3.62 per game), which is eighth in the Big Ten.  MSU averaged just over three walks per game last year (136 walks in 45 games).  The 145 free passes rank ninth all-time in a season in the MSU record books. Â
•  MSU has turned 18 double plays, which ranks third in the Big Ten and 39th nationally (0.45/gm).  It is also tied for the fifth-most DPs in a season in program history (1984, 1994).  It is the most since the 2019 team had 19, and the school record is 27 in 2015.   MSU's catchers have gunned down 12 of 56 stolen base attempts against, including two runners caught stealing last weekend at Rutgers.  Â
•  Sophomore Natalia Kenyatta had herself a weekend in New Jersey,  going 4-for-6 at the plate with a pair of sac bunts, a double, and two RBI. She had her back-to-back multi-hit games on Saturday and Sunday, with two base knocks and a sac bunt in each game.  Since the start of the Ohio State series (3/27),  Kenyatta has had four, two-hit games.  She has started 18 games this season of her 25 played and is batting .267, with career highs in hits (12), walks (7), stolen bases (2) and runs (10).  Defensively, she has 16 putouts and 27 assists without an error.
•  Sydney Doloszycki leads the squad with 22 RBI, is second on the team in batting average (.321), and base hits (34).  She had three base hits in each of the first two games at Rutgers, with a double and three runs scored.  Â
•   Sophia Grillo hit a pinch-hit two-run homer last Sunday at Rutgers in the seventh inning; it pulled her into a team lead round-trippers this season (four).  Eight of her 20 base hits this year have been for extra bases (four doubles, four homers).  She ranks second on the squad in RBI (18), while ranking third in batting average (.247), and slugging percentage (.444) and fourth in OPB (.386). Â
•  Catcher Kirsten Caravaca was 2-for-7 with a pair of walks in the Rutgers series, and earlier in the week was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI at Oakland.  On Saturday, she delivered a three-run homer (her first HR as a Spartan) in the seventh inning to break a 6-6 tie and propel MSU to a win against the Scarlet Knights. Â
.Â
• Shortstop Payton Conroy battled injuries her first two seasons and as a junior, has established new career bests in most offensive categories, including base hits (18), doubles (8, second on the team) , walks (14), runs (13), and RBI (14) through 40 starts this season, all at shortstop. She has a team-high 88 defensive assists (third, B1G).
Â
•  Hannah Greer was 2-for-6 with three walks last weekend at Rutgers.  She is fourth on the team in walks (17), which surpasses her 2025 total.  She has struck out just 12 times in 85 at-bats – tied with Doloszycki for the team low.  She has four doubles, a triple, and a homer among her 16 base hits. Â
• In the circle, MSU's seven complete games this season surpasses its four it threw in 2025.  Jacey Schuler has tossed four this season,  Carsyn Cassady two, and freshman Alex Starr one.  Cassady and Schuler each have a complete game in Big Ten play.
