What you need to know about Spartan softball

• Michigan State has a pair of midweek contests on tap against Central Michigan (Tuesday) and Detroit Mercy (Wednesday) Wednesday's game was originally scheduled for March 18 but was postponed due to weather.

• Central Michigan Is 14-14 on the season, and went 1-2 last weekend at Ohio (3-6, 5-3, 7-12) to sit at 5-4 in MAC games. The Chippewas are led by Jenna Kuzara (.371, 5 HR,, 24 RBI), Grace Koenig (.374, 21 RBI), and Angela Petrovich (.392, 40 hits, 10 RBI). McKenzie Langan has started 14 games and has thrown a team-high 67 innings, striking out 66 against 37 walks and boasting a 3.76 ERA. Brooklyn Compau has started the other 12 Chippewa games, (58.1 innings), and owns a 3.96 ERA with 50 K's.

• Detroit Mercy is 7-20 on the year. Last weekend, the Titans played a pair at Indiana, dropping a the games by 8-0 and 7-5 scores. Trinity Fessler leads the team with a .338 batting average and 12 RBI; Abby Kleft leads the team with a team-high 15 RBI, with a .286 average. Jada Davis shares the team lead in walks (11) and is batting .291 with a pair of triples. In the circle, the bulk of the starts have gone to Erin Flynn (14 in 19 appearances, 29 K in 57.2 innings) and Savannah Schultz (10 starts, 23 app., 50 K in 82.2 inn.). They own 7.28 and 5.67 ERA, respectively.

• The Spartans have started their Big Ten season with the three highest-ranked Conference teams in the preseason polls - No. 7 UCLA, No. 9 Nebraska, and Ohio State, which was No. 25 in inaugural survey. Tuesday's game will be just the fifth home game of its 33 games so far.

• Freshman Zoie Bernard had three hits in the Ohio State series, and continues to lead the squad in batting average (.339), hits (38), doubles (11) triples (5) and is third on the team with two home runs. She also has 12 RBI on the year.

• Hannah Hawley had a base hit and a pair of walks in the series with the Buckeyes. She leads the team with four homers, is second on the team in RBI (17) and walks (17), and third in both batting average (.255) and doubles (6).

• Sydney Doloszycki ranks second on the team in batting average (.280) and is fourth in base hits,. She leads the team with 18 RBI.

• Carsyn Cassady pitched her second complete game of the season last Saturday at Ohio State. She leads the team in appearances (29) and is second in innings pitched (50.2), striking out a team-best 43.She and has a pair of saves.
