Softball Concludes Regular Season at #3 Oregon

EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State softball concludes its 2025 regular season this weekend in Eugene, Oregon facing the Ducks on the road for the first time in program history on May 2-4.
Saturday and Sunday's games will be televised nationally via Big Ten Network, while Friday's contest will be streamed on B1G+. Live stats will be available via StatBroadcast.
MSU is 1-1 all-time against Oregon meeting the Ducks in 2008 (L, 3-1) and 1999 (W, 9-1). Both previous meetings were at neutral sites, taking on Oregon at the Palm Springs Classic in 2008 and at an NCAA Regional in Chicago alongside DePaul and Cornell in 1999. The Spartans got three RBIs from Shealee Dunavan and two from Carrie Fry in the 9-1 win on 5/22/1999. Molly Hugan hit a solo homer for the Spartans in the victory. Erica Strutz tossed a complete game allowing just four hits over 6.0 innings pitched.
Michigan State is coming off a 1-2 record last week taking game two from the Hawkeyes in walk-off fashion. It marks the fifth B1G series of the season with at least one win for Michigan State (Minnesota, Michigan, Illinois, Washington, Iowa). It was a closely contested series with the Hawkeyes with Michigan State being out-scored just 11-9. The Hawkeyes took game one (3-1) and game three (6-4), with MSU knocking off Iowa 4-2 in game two.
Kaelin Cash (.375) and Hannah Greer (.300) each hit .300 or better on eight or more at-bats last week, and Britain Beshears was 1-for-3 at the plate with three walks drawn in six plate appearances for a .667 on-base percentage. In the circle Madison Taylor tossed 9.1 shutout innings of relief with a .235 batting average against.
Nobody has been hotter at the plate for MSU over the last month than junior Kaelin Cash who has posted a .447 batting average, .542 on-base percentage and .851 slugging percentage March 28. Cash leads Michigan State in multi-hit games this season with 12. She's third among Spartans in multi-RBI games this year with five. Cash posted a team-best 13 game reached base streak earlier this season, and is currently on a nine game streak alongside Hawley.
The Opponent: #3 Oregon
Oregon enters the weekend ranked No. 3 in the NFCA and USA Softball polls, receiving one first place vote in both. The Ducks are 45-5 overall and 17-2 in the Big Ten in their inaugural season in the conference under head coach Melyssa Lombardi. Oregon has won five straight and six of its last seven dating back to a 2-1 series victory over then No. 6-ranked UCLA.
The Ducks rank No. 5 nationally in batting average (.353), No. 4 in ERA (2.10), No. 3 in fielding percentage (.983), No 9 in RBIs (352), No. 3 in scoring (7.04), No. 4 in stolen bases per game (3.00), No. 4 in total runs (398), No. 4 in total steals (150), No. 8 in WHIP (1.07) and lead the country in winning percentage.
