EAST LANSING, Mich. – Michigan State softball broke up a Washington no-hit bid late but were unable to build on the momentum, falling 6-0 to the Huskies in the series finale at Secchia Stadium on Sunday.
MSU moves to 14-25 (4-12 B1G) while Washington, who is receiving votes in the ESPN and NFCA Top 25 polls, improves to 31-13 (9-6). The Spartans return to B1G action next weekend, April 25-27, at home against Iowa.
Freshman Jacey Schuler started in the circle going 2.0 scoreless innings with a pair of strikeouts. Sophomore Ava Mullen (1-1), senior Faith Guidry and freshman Carsyn Cassady pitched out of the bullpen for MSU. Cassady turned in the longest outing of the day going 3.1 innings allowing two earned runs on three hits and one strikeout.
Freshman Ava Coffinger broke up a Huskies no-hit bid with a fifth inning bunt single placed perfectly between the catcher and pitcher. Junior Britain Beshears reached twice on a pair of walks as the Spartans drew four total free passes in the contest.
The Huskies scored six runs on eight hits on Sunday to take the 2-1 series victory. Michigan State has taken at least one game in each of its last three Big Ten series as it fights for a spot in the 2025 Big Ten Tournament.
