Spartans face two ranked Big Ten Conference opponents in their conference home opening weekend
EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 75 Michigan State women's tennis returns to the MSU Indoor Tennis Center for their Big Ten Conference home opener against No. 33 Penn State on Saturday, March 15 at 12 p.m. and No. 10 Ohio State on Sunday, March 16 at 12 p.m.
The Green & White enter their B1G home opening weekend 9-4 overall and 1-1 in B1G action.
Previously, the Spartans upset No. 44 ranked Nebraska in a triumph of 4-2 on Sunday, Mar. 9 on the Huskers' court.
This was the first ranked win for the team since the 2022-23 season, when the team upset No. 60 Penn State in a close victory of 4-3.
With this victory, the Spartans earned themselves a spot in the ITA rankings for the first time this season, coming in at No. 75 and becoming the 14th ranked Big Ten team this week.
MSU faces the powerhouses of Penn State and Ohio State this weekend, a trivial test for the team.
Series History vs. Penn State
The history between MSU and PSU spans back to 2002, when the two teams first met in Big Ten contention, where the Spartans took the match 5-2.

In their last victory, the Spartans snagged their victory 4-3 in East Lansing on the MSU Outdoor Tennis Courts.
Looking forward, the Green & White hope to cause another B1G upset and secure a victory against the PSU for the first time since 2022-23.

The Spartans slated wins against OSU during the 2004-05 and 2012-13 seasons, marking over a 10-year drought against the Buckeyes.
The Green & White were able to put up a score of 2-4 in their last match against the Buckeyes during the 2023-24 season, with junior Matilde Morais and redshirt-sophomore Natalie Stasny securing both of the points for the Spartans.

Going into this weekend with an 8-1 overall record and 2-0 Big Ten record, the Buckeyes first travel to Ann Arbor to face No. 6 Michigan on Sat. Mar. 15.
