NOTES TO KNOW:
• Michigan State is ranked No. 3 in the USCHO.com poll and No. 3 in the USA Hockey poll for the second straight week after five consecutive weeks ranked No. 1 and two weeks garnering every first place vote. MSU has not been ranked lower than No. 4 in either poll this season.
• MSU is coming off an 2-0-0 Thanksgiving week series against Colgate winning by scores of 5-2 and 4-1 at Munn.
• Freshmen Ryker Lee and Eric Nilson both scored a goal in each game of the Colgate series last week playing together on the second line. Lee led all Spartans in points last week with four (2-2-4) after posting a goal and an assist in both games against the Raiders. Senior Daniel Russell scored twice and assisted on a third goal in MSU's 4-1 game two victory.
• Freshman forward Porter Martone leads Michigan State with 19 points (10-9-19) and is #12 in the country in points per game at 1.36. Martone's 0.71 goals per game ranks #11 nationally and his three game-winning goals is 3rd in DI.
• Michigan State's top line of Daniel Russell - Charlie Stramel - Porter Martone has recorded 50 points this season on 20 goals and 30 assists. They are a combined +43 with Stramel leading with a +15 to Martone and Russell's +14.
• Stramel is #11 nationally in face-off wins (176), #26 in assists per game (0.79) and #23 in points per game (1.21).
• Four Spartans ranked in the Top 10 for points/game in the B1G for the month of November: #3 - Charlie Stramel (1.38) and T-4 - Daniel Russell/Porter Martone/Ryker Lee (1.25).
• Junior goaltender Trey Augustine is among the best in the country ranking #1 in shutouts (3), #6 in goals against average (1.66) and #5 in save percentage (.938). Augustine leads the Big Ten in all three categories.Â
• In the month of November, Augustine posted a 1.57 goals against average to lead the Big Ten by a margin of 0.86 and his .946 save percentage in seven starts topped the conference by .028.
• Michigan State ranks #3 nationally in scoring defense (1.71), #11 in scoring offense (3.64) and  #3 in scoring margin (+1.93). MSU leads the Big Ten in scoring defense and is third in scoring offense.
• Under head coach Adam Nightingale, Michigan State is 5-1-1 against consensus No. 1-ranked teams. Earlier this season MSU swept #1/1 Boston University (4-2, 4-3 OT). The Spartans went 1-0-1 in 2024-25 against #1/1 Minnesota (3-3 T, 5-3 W) and won the game one shootout to pick up the extra point in the B1G standings. MSU was 2-0-0 against top-ranked Wisconsin in 2023-24 (4-2 W, 3-2 W). Michigan State was 0-1-0 in 2022-23 (Nightingale's first season) falling to #1/1 Minnesota in the Big Ten Tournament semifinals.
• Three current and future Spartans were named to the preliminary Team USA Junior National Team ahead of the 2026 IIHF World Junior Championships in Minneapolis: Ryker Lee, Shane Vansaghi and Chase Reid (future).
• Ryker Lee and Charlie Stramel are tied for the second-longest point streak in the country at seven games dating back to a November 8 win over Penn State. Lee has 10 points (5-5-10) over that span and has scored goals in five of MSU's last six games. Stramel has 11 points (3-8-11) in that same time frame.
