East Lansing, Mich. - Â Â Â Â Cole Krygier scored on a rising shot from the bottom of the left circle in overtime to propel the Spartans to a 3-2 victory over No. 5/5 Penn State on Friday night at Munn Ice Arena.Â
Â
The Spartans (13-11-1, 7-7-1 B1G) trailed 2-0 early in the third period thanks to a pair of 5-on-3 power play goals for the visiting team, scored in the second period (Jarod Crespo) and Ture Linden 2:32 into the third period. MSU amassed a season-high 39 penalty minutes thanks to a pair of 10-minute misconducts and a five-minute major but rallied with two goals in a five-minute span in the third and got the winner from Krygier in OT.Â
Â
Â
On the game-winner, the Spartans cycled it deep as Justin Jallen fed Zach Dubinsky, who whirled behind the cage and into the right circle and fed it to Cole Krygier at the left point. Krygier wheeled into the high slot and then drove down the left side, and as Dubinsky occupied the defenseman in front; Krygier lifted the puck over Liam Souliere's right shoulder just inside the post for his eighth goal of the season. Both forwards picked up assists on the play.
Â
Â
Â
MSU mounted its comeback in the third period, starting with an Erik Middendorf tally at 8:38 off a feed from captain Miroslav Mucha from behind the goalcage. Jagger Joshua tied the game at 13:11, putting back a rebound off his own shot.Â
Â
Dylan St. Cyr was masterful in the Spartan crease, stopping 42 shots, two short of his season high of 44.   St. Cyr had 15 saves in the third period alone, keeping his team in the hunt as it mounted a comeback.  Liam Souliere finished his game with 34 stops for Penn State. Â
Â
Â
The win snapped a five-game skid for the Spartans, who had not won since a home victory over Michigan on Dec. 9. MSU is now 2-1 against the Nittany Lions (17-6-0, 7-6-0 B1G) this season with the fourth and final game of the regular season between the teams scheduled for 7 pm on Saturday. The game will air live on Big Ten Network.
