What you need to know about Spartan Hockey (Click on "Game Notes" above for full media supplement)
• Michigan State hosts its first games of 2023 when it entertains Penn State for a two-game set. MSU trails the all-time series with the Nittany Lions by a 15-21-4 margin, and owns a 10-9-1 mark against the Nittany Lions on its home ice.  The teams have split each of the last three series, and nine of the last 10.  Back in November, PSU earned a wild 4-3 come-from-behind win in the first game of the series before MSU posted a 7-3 win on getaway day. Â
 •  Michigan State dropped both games at No. 12/12 Ohio State last weekend, 3-1 and 6-0.  MSU was shut out for the third time this season and tied its season high for goals allowed (Dec. 3 v. Minnesota).  The Spartans sit in fourth place in the Big Ten standings (20 points) after the series at Ohio State, trailing the Buckeyes by one point and second-place Penn State by two.  MSU has played the most Conference games of any team (14).
• With a 8-4-0 mark at Munn Ice Arena and five home contests remaining, MSU has tied its home win total from 2021-22.  The Spartans earned nine home victories in 2013-14 and 2014-15, and last had double-digit victories in their home rink in 2011-12 (11).  In only two previous seasons has MSU had more than six Big Ten Conference victories:  2014-15 (11 wins, 37 points) and 2019-20 (11 wins, 35 points). Â
•  MSU's top line of Karsen Dorwart centering  Jagger Joshua and Daniel Russell are three of the top four scorers for MSU, with a combined 21 goals and 54 points.  Each of the trio has seven goals, tied with defenseman Cole Krygier for the team lead.  Dorwart centers the Spartan top line, and shares the squad's points lead with classmate Russell.  The pair each has 13 assists on the season, and is also sharing the team lead in game-winning goals (2) with classmate Tiernan Shoudy. They are also tied for ninth in the Big Ten in points per game (0.91).
 • Senior Nicolas Müller has increased his team lead to 16 assists, which is tied for second in the B1G and 15th nationally.  Müller's 3-16-19 scoring line represents single-season bests in all three offensive categories.  He entered his senior campaign with 15 assists and six goals over his first three collegiate seasons.   Â
•  Dylan St. Cyr has played in 23 of MSU's 24 games this season (and all 14 Big Ten contests) - the most games in the crease of any B1G netminder.  He has matched or surpassed his previous single-season bests in games played (23), wins (11), saves (669) and minutes played (1335).  He is currently fourth in the Big Ten with a .920 save percentage overall (20th nationally), and is fifth in the Conference with a 2.61 GAA.   Â
