Softball Thwarted by Badgers in Series Finale

Senior Courtney Callahan recorded a multi-hit game for the Spartans going 2-for-3 at the plate. Sophomore Marissa Trivelpiece also had a strong day at the plate with a double to right in the third inning. Fifth year Caitie Ladd, sophomore Alexis Barroso and senior Abby Joseph each tallied base knocks for Michigan State on Sunday. Joseph's single through the right side of the infield was her first hit of the season.

Callahan and Ladd have been two of the most consistent performers for the Spartans as of late, each hitting 6-of-16 (.375) over the last five games.
Wisconsin got to Spartan starter sophomore Ashley Miller early scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Badgers scored with consistency, adding runs in each of the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Miller (11-13) finished the game allowing five earned runs on six hits, striking out four in 3.1 innings pitched. Junior Sarah Ladd came on in relief, striking out five in 2.2 innings of work, allowing three runs (one earned) on three hits.
UP NEXT: Michigan State will return to action at Secchia Stadium on Tuesday, April 19 when it meets Michigan for a 6:00 p.m. first pitch. Tuesday's game will be televised on BTN with Sloane Martin and Jennie Ritter on the call. Next weekend the Spartans will head to West Lafayette, Indiana for a three-game series at Purdue.
