
Field Hockey falls to No. 3 UConn

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State field hockey team fell to No. 3 Uconn, 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Ralph Young Field.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jade Arundell collected 11 saves on the day for the Spartans, while freshman Nienke Bloemsaat and sophomore Aisha Osinga each collected a shot.

UConn used two goals from Abby Gooderham and 30 total shots en route to the 2-0 victory.

At the 14:42 mark of the first period, the Huskies got on the board first with a goal by Gooderham off a penalty corner, with feeds from Antonia Tiedtke and Sophie Hamilton.

The Spartans collected two penalty corners in the second period, but couldn't capitalize on either opportunity. UConn exploded in the third period, rattling off 11 shots and six penalty corners. Gooderham recorded her second goal of the day at the 32nd minute, with Tiedtke and Svea Boker recording assists.

The No. 25-ranked Spartans fall to 4-2 on the season and look to rebound next weekend in East Lansing. MSU opens Big Ten play against Indiana on Friday, Sept. 20 at 3 p.m. and follow with a 11:30 a.m. matchup with Ball State on Sunday, Sept 22.
