Charla Echols goes 4-for-4 with a double, homer
Michigan State's offense opened up in its first night game at Secchia Stadium, as the Spartans earned a 11-3 win (five innings) over intra-state rival Oakland.

MSU got on the board in every inning. It started with a Charla Echols solo homer in the first, a four-run second inning that featured back –to-back doubles from Meech and Ebonee Echols, and a three-run third with doubles by Caitie Ladd and Charla Echols. Redshirt sophomore Shae Schreckengost hit her first career home run In the fourth, and Ladd drove home the game-ending run in the fifth.
MSU went with a staff outing in the circle, with starter Alli Walker picking up the win after going two innings in the starting role. Both Jordan Watson and Leah Shipp pitched for MSU as well.
For Oakland, starter Chelsea Wiggins took the loss (3-8). Jackie Reitmeyer had a pair of base hits – a double and a triple – while Jamie Squires and Mikayela Marciniak each homered for the Golden Grizzlies (8-19).

QUOTABLE
"There was lots to be excited about today – I think we were all looking forward to the first night game, and to put on the offensive performance we did today was really good for us – 11 runs and 14 hits is hopefully enough to get our momentum going a bit going into the series with Maryland this weekend. It was so great to see Katelyn Hendershott - a kid who has really had to battle to come back from injury – get her first hit of the season, and that homer from Shae [Schreckengost] will hopefully boost her confidence a bit too. Both of the Echols sisters today were just so good offensively, and Ebonee made a couple of really, really nice defensive plays. All around, it was a good day for us and it hopefully leads us into the weekend on a great note."
