Following a three-game road-trip the Michigan State field hockey team is back at home this week with a two-game slate. The Spartans open the weekend with a 3p.m. Friday match-up against Monmouth University (2-2) before facing off against University of the Pacific on Sunday at 1 pm. Pacific will oppose both Central Michigan and Michigan on their road-trip through the Great Lakes State.

Last Time Out
The Spartans went 1-2 on their three-game Connecticut road trip.Aisha Osinga and Amanda Robinson scored goals in the MSU win over Quinnipiac last Saturday. Robinson's goal was the first of her career. Isa van der Weij was Michigan State's lone goal scorer against Yale, scoring off a penalty corner with assists from Osinga and Madison O'Neill.

Scouting the Spartans
There has been a freshman focus for MSU this season with top scorers Isa van der Weij and Aisha Osinga each wrapping up their first month in the United States. van der Weij leads the team with six points on the year (2g - 2a) and Osinga matches her in goals with two, alongside one assist.
van der Weij was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week for August 27 after scoring the game-winning goal in a 3-2 overtime victory over Kent State.
Freshman goalkeeper Jade Arundell owns a 2.13 goals against average and a .718 save percentage through five games. Arundell's 5.60 saves per game ranks No. 28 in Division I. Freshman Maddie McDonough and senior Amanda Robinson each have a defensive save to their name as the Spartans rank No. 4 in the nation in defensive saves.
Michigan State is coached by Helen Knull, who in her eighth season holds an overall record of 64-82.
Scouting the Hawks
Monmouth is led in scoring by Kelly Hanna, who has scored in three of the Hawks' four games this season. Hanna's .75 goals per game ranks No. 37 in Division I. Hanna is a three-time MAAC Offensive Player of the Week and was named First Team All-MAAC in 2017. Following Hanna, four Hawks are tied with one goal apiece.
Josephine van der Hoop leads the team in assists with two. van der Hoop was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Year in 2017 and the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year in 2018.
In the cage for Monmouth is Gabi Millan, who is in her first season as the starting goalkeeper. Millan's goals against average is 2.45 alongside a .655 save percentage.
Monmouth is coached by Carli Figlio, who in her 12th season has a career tally of 115-103.
Scouting the Tigers
Pacific is anchored by goalkeeper Marlise Van Tonder who's 8.00 saves per game ranks No. 9 in Division I and her .821 save percentage ranks No. 13 overall. Hayley Kilfoil leads Division I in defensive saves with four on the season. Pacific is the Division I leader in defensive saves with eight as a team.
Offensively, the Tigers are led by Rylee Comeau and Kiekie Van Wyk who each have two goals and an assist under their belt.
As a team, Pacific has held opponents to 1.75 goals per game on 16.25 shots. The Tigers are averaging 12.75 shots per game in addition to 1.50 goals.
Head Coach Andy Smith is in his sixth season coaching the Tigers and has a career record of 51-51 to date.
