Field Hockey Falls to No. 1 UConn

STORRS, Conn. -Â Michigan State's field hockey team lost to No. 1-ranked Connecticut, 5-0, on Friday at the George J. Sherman Family Sports Complex in Storrs, Conn.
MSU falls to 1-2 overall, while the Huskies improve to 3-0.
UConn out-shot the Spartans 27-7 overall and 13-6 in shots on goal. The Huskies held a 12-2 advantage in penalty corner's converting on one in the 61st minute of action.
Freshman Jade Arundell made eight saves in goal for the Spartans on 13 shots faced for a .615 save percentage. Connecticut goalkeeper Cheyenne Sprecher made four saves in addition to two team saves.
The Huskies struck first first, scoring two goals in the 16th minute. UConn would score once more in the first to take a 3-0 lead into halftime.
Michigan State had four scoring opportunities in the second half. Sophomore Meredith Ross had a shot blocked in the 49th minute after a saved shot off the stick of freshman Isa van der Weij.
Later on in the half, a defensive save was made on a shot by sophomore Lia Sinisi leading to a penalty corner for freshman Aisha Osinga. Following Osinga's corner, van der Weij had her second shot on goal of the half saved.
Connecticut added goals in the 51st and 61st minutes to earn the 5-0 victory over Michigan State.
