Field Hockey Opens Play in Big Ten Tournament on Friday

Michigan State is 22-6 in the all-time series against Indiana, but fell in its last meeting by a final score of 1-0. Prior to, Michigan State had defeated the Hoosiers in three straight. The winner of Friday's contest will advance to the second round of the Big Ten tournament to face top-seeded and No. 2-ranked Maryland. The game against Maryland will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 28.

Against Ohio State, sophomore Meredith Ross scored the Spartans first goal of the afternoon in the 55th minute off a feed from freshman Isa van der Weij. The goal was Ross' first of the season and second of her career. van der Weij's assist was her third of the season as she increased her season point total to a team-high 11 with four goals and three assists. At Miami (Ohio), freshman goalkeeper Jade Arundell set a new career-high in saves with 11 on 28 shots faced.
Scouting the Spartans
van der weij leads the team with 11 points on the year (4g - 3a). Aisha Osinga has two goals and two assists. Madison O'Neill is third on the team in points with four on one goal and two assists. Kelsey Keener and Bailey Higgins each have three points. Higgins scored her first career goal earlier this season.
Maddie McDonough, Amanda Robinson, Makenzie Brown, Daphne Voorman and Meredith Ross each have one goal. Lia Sinisi, Maggie Cole and Cara Bonshak each have an assist. 10 different Spartans have scored goals this season and eight have assists to their season tally.

Indiana's lone conference win came against the Spartans on October 5 by a final score of 1-0. Kelsey Giese leads the team in scoring with three goals and two assists.Ciara Girouard leads the team in assists with three and ranks second in total points with five. Nine different Hoosiers have scored this season and seven have assists.
Sachi Ananias and Shelby Querry have split time in goal for Indiana this season. Ananias has a 2.39 goals against average and a .612 save percentage in 556 minutes of time in the cage. In 480 minutes in goal, Querry has a 2.62 goals against average and a .654 save percentage.
In her fourth season at Indiana, Amanda Janney Misselhorn owns a career record of 141-141 which includes a 10-year stint at Temple where she amassed an 114-94 record.
