
Softball Downs Eastern Michigan, 9-2

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State softball team (14-17) topped Eastern Michigan, 9-2, at Old College Field today (March 30). The win marked the second Spartan victory over the Eagles this season. Junior Lindsey Hansen led MSU at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double and a RBI.
Trailing 2-1 in the bottom of the third, the Spartans used a three-run inning to gain the lead over the Eagles. Junior Jessica Bracamonte posted her first three RBIs of the game when she hit a ball that barely cleared the left field fence, scoring Hansen and freshman Kylene Hopkins from first and second, respectively.
Although both teams were scoreless in the first inning, Eastern Michigan got started in the top of the second with a Katy Blaharski hit a shot that could not be fielded clearly by the shortstop, bringing in Jessica Richards and Allison Scherer.
The Spartans responded in the bottom half of the inning with a solo homer from sophomore Ali Grant, making the score 2-1.
MSU was able to bust open the game in the bottom of the fifth when sophomore Brett Williams capped off the four-run inning with the second Spartan homer of the game to score sophomore Lori Padilla, who was running for sophomore Lauren Kramer.
Kramer improved her pitching record to 10-8 with her 12th complete game of the season. Kramer limited the Eagle hitters to four hits and two runs, while striking out three batters. Jenna Ignowski took the loss for EMU in 4.1 innings of work. Ignowski allowed five earned runs on 10 Spartan hits.
MSU will return to Big Ten action this weekend when it hosts Minnesota on Saturday and Sunday. Both games with be aired live on the Big Ten Network with first pitch slated for 1:05 p.m. each game.
