GLI Post game quaotes MSU head coach Rick Comley
Opening statement...
I though Michigan played very well. They have good speed and they worked really hard. Once they got going, there was nothing we could do, so I thought that they played very well.
On positives that the team can take away from the GLI...
We had to break the losing steak which we did. I thought we beat a pretty good North Dakota team last night. I think there were several factors with our play this weekend. Good teams draw penalties and we took some penalties at bad times. We started the game with a penalty, unlike last night when we started really well. We took some behind-the-play penalties which hurt you. But overall, it is pretty obvious; we match up well against some teams, but a couple teams we don't match up well against. Our young players just couldn't handle that speed and strength that Michigan had tonight.
I think we will know as it goes on. Again, I thought we were a much better team last night then we had been for a while, so that is a positive., I guess we will find out a lot more next weekend.
On adjustments the team needs to make for its next game against Michigan...
They really took it to us at their place and we came back and probably should have won the next night at our place. If you let them really roar, then that is their strength. There is nothing that you can do when they play like that. I though Jeff Lerg was amazing and I thought that he played outstanding again, just like he always does.
On keeping attitudes positive...
Right now you play the mental battle. You need to try and keep their heads in it and try to play and compete. It is all about learning to compete. Last night, I thought we played like a more mature team, but tonight we looked like a young team, and they got overwhelmed.
On beginning the second half of the season...
You just need to keep plugging away. This is our team; there are things we do have and there are things we don't have, but I still think we can win our share of games. You beat up on what you don't have or why you think you are where you are. Again, we played a really good game last night and played a good first period tonight. Then we got tired and we couldn't handle their speed. I'll go back to practice on Tuesday and try to keep moving forward. The thing about hockey is that it is not over until it is over. A lot can happen so we just need to try and plug away.
On Matt Schepke...
Well I thought he played really well last night and then he played really well in the first period tonight. After that he seemed to get a little frustrated and took a few behind-the-play penalties that were negative.
On the opposition playing physical against Andrew Conboy...
He is a marked man, that's for sure. He is a physical player and he is a big kid and I think that it is really unfair right now to be honest with you. He plays with passion and he's in the game and I think it is all personal, he just needs to keep playing hard.
