Field Hockey Wins Fourth Consecutive Game

Boston - The Michigan State field hockey team, ranked 18th in the nation, won its fourth consecutive game Saturday afternoon, defeating Providence 2-1 on the campus of Northeastern University. The Spartans improve to 5-2 on the season, while the Friars fall to 0-7.
MSU led the entire game, scoring their first goal at the 22:07 mark in the first period on a penalty corner. Julia Adams (Soph., North Vancouver, B.C.) netted her second goal of the season on an assist by Cynthia Martin (Soph., Vancouver, B.C.). Martin tallied her second assist of the game and team-leading sixth point after passing to Jessica Wheeler (Jr., San Diego, Calif.), who scored her first goal of the year on a penalty corner with 6:01 remaining in the first period.
The Friars came out and scored early in the second half at the 4:57 mark on a goal by Jennifer Chin. However, the Spartan defense shut down Providence the rest of the contest, holding the Friars to six shots-on-goal and two penalty corners for the game.
Michigan State returns to action tomorrow to face No. 10 Northeastern at 2:30 p.m. in Boston.
