EAST LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan State field hockey team lost to No. 2 Iowa on Friday afternoon, 3-1, in Iowa City. The loss drops MSU to 8-8 overall (1-6 Big Ten), while Iowa improves to 14-1 overall (7-1 Big Ten).
Sophomore Kate Wade (Harwich, Mass.) scored the lone goal for the Spartans with just under four minutes remaining in the second half. Freshman goalkeeper Mireille Evans (Castlegar, B.C.) recorded nine saves for Michigan State, while senior Kelly Druley had fives stops for Iowa.
Senior Lesley Irvine and freshman Tiffany Leister each scored in the first half for Iowa. Leister netted the game-winning goal, with Irvine and senior Alycyn Freet assisting. Hawkeye senior Quan Nim secured the victory for by scoring in the second half, with sophomore Anita Miller earning the assist.
Michigan State continues to play on the road, facing Northwestern on October 22 at noon.
