Field Hockey Shut Out By No. 7 Michigan

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The No. 15 Michigan State field hockey team lost, 5-0, to No. 7 Michigan Sunday afternoon in Ann Arbor. The loss drops MSU to 8-7 on the season, 1-5 in the Big Ten, while Michigan improves to 14-4, 5-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Mireille Evans (Castlegar, B.C.) tallied 14 saves for Michigan State, while sophomore Kate Wade (Harwich, Mass.) recorded the lone shot on goal for the Spartans. Sophomore Jessica Wheeler chipped in with her first defensive save of the season.
Evans kept MSU close in the first half, stopping 11 Wolverine shots to keep the score at 2-0. Michigan got three goals on nine shots in the second half to make the final score 5-0.
Michigan State returns to action next weekend with a pair of Big Ten road games. They face Iowa at 4 p.m. on Oct. 22 and Northwestern at noon on Oct. 24.
