Field Hockey Falls to No. 5 Penn State

EAST LANSING, Mich. - The 13th-ranked Michigan State field hockey team was shut out by No. 5 Penn State, 5-0, Friday evening in Happy Valley, Pa. The loss drops the Spartans to 7-4 overall, 0-2 in the Big Ten, while the Nittany Lions improve to 9-2, 2-1.
PSU took control of the game in the last 8:15 of the first half, scoring three unanswered goals. The Nittany Lions got two additional scores in the second half to push the final margin to 5-0.
Freshman goalkeeper Mireille Evans (Castlegar, B.C.) finished with 13 saves for the game, while sophomore Marleen Tuip (Eindhoven, Netherlands) led Michigan State with five shots on goal.
Michigan State continues its road trip with a game at No. 7 Ohio State Sunday at 1 p.m. MSU then returns home to face unranked Northwestern on Oct. 8 and No. 4 Iowa on Oct. 10.
