Field Hockey Tripped Up At Ohio State, 3-1

EAST LANSING, Mich.- - The No. 13 Michigan State field hockey team lost to Ohio State, 3-1, Sunday afternoon in Columbus, Ohio. The loss drops the Spartans to 7-5 overall and 0-3 in Big Ten play, while Ohio State improves to 9-2 overall, 2-2 in the conference.
Ohio State went ahead early on a penalty stroke by Katie Hobson with just under 25 minutes remaining in the first half. MSU answered with 5:43 left in the half when sophomore Sanne van Nouhuys (Bilthoven, Netherlands) set up fellow sophomore Bridget Cooper (Winnetka, Ill.) to tie the game at one goal apiece.
Jayne Landis got the eventual game winner for OSU with 22:20 to go in regulation, and Deanna Menichini added an insurance goal five minutes later to push the final score to 3-1.
MSU returns home to continue Big Ten play this weekend, when it entertains unranked Northwestern on Oct. 8 at 7:30 p.m. in the Duffy Daugherty Indoor Facility and No. 4 Iowa at 1 p.m. on Oct. 10 in Spartan Stadium. The Spartans will then hit the road for three conference games beginning Oct. 17 at Michigan.
