Spartan Complete 2026 Season at Big Tens

East Lansing, Mich. -- Michigan State  wrapped up its season at the Big Ten Championships on Sunday.  Washington captured its second consecutive team title, earning gold medals in all three NCAA boats by comfortable margins to have the title wrapped up early in the day. Â
Â
Sunday's racing was considerably less stressful on all crews – Saturday's weather forecast showed unrowable conditions, forcing the scheduled semifinal heats to be preemptively moved to Friday, where the teams faced difficult conditions.  After an off day on Saturday, the crews returned to Eagle Creek Reservoir for finals racing today, with a considerably altered schedule. Instead of building to the varsity eight race as the final races of the schedule, instead racing began with the fourth varsity eights and went into the NCAA boats in order, followed by the second and third fours, wrapping with the third varsity/novice eight races to finish the day. As a result, Washington had sealed its Big Ten title early in the schedule – but did not deter the Huskies from winning the smaller entries, earning wins in six of the seven  boat classes, its lone second-place finish coming in the novice eightÂ
Â
With the start of Michigan State's day coming early Sunday morning in the petite final of the varsity eight, the Spartans delivered strong race. Minnesota raced out to an early lead as USC and MSU battled down the course for the second spot. USC held the slimmest of leads (.4 seconds)  as the boats crossed the 1000 meter mark,  but USC extended that lead to a second and a half as the crews entered the final 500. USC moved fiercely as it went into the final sprint, moving on the Gophers and going up a length on MSU. Minnesota held on to take the race victory (6:43.663), about two seats over Southern Cal (6:44.886). MSU was clocked in a time of 6:51.931, open water over Iowa (6:59.744) and Wisconsin (7:04.164). Â
Â
As for the other NCAA boats, MSU's second varsity eight finished fourth (7:07.219) in the petite final, and the Spartans finished  fifth in the varsity four (8:27.386). The second (8:51) and third (8:48.528) varsity fours each took fifth-place finishes. The final race of the day for MSU was the third varsity/novice eights, with MSU taking third place (8:13.938).Â
