Spartans Advance Six to Petite Finals After Big Ten Semifinal Racing
5/15/2026 8:53:00 PM | Women's Rowing
Michigan State opened competition at the Big Ten Championships on Friday, and has advanced all six entries into Sunday's Petite finals.Â
Â
Due to inclement weather in the forecast, all the semifinal heat racing was moved from the originally scheduled Saturday morning schedule to Friday afternoon, with racing beginning at 6 pm in the fourth varsity eights (a boat class MSU did not enter). In the third varsity eight, the Spartans were clocked in a time of 8:50.801 in the second heat.Â
MSU's second varsity eight was in the faster of the two heats, and finished a length ahead of Wisconsin (7:40.452-7:44.565). The Varsity Eight was battling and was two seats back on Southern Cal at the 1000 meter mark (3:36.7-3:37.7), but could not overcome a strong finish by the Trojans and was timed in 7:14.500.Â
Â
The three classes of fours raced in succession after the eights had completed. The second and third varsity eights both finished fifth, while the varsity four finished sixth in its race.Â
After a Saturday without racing, the Sunday slate will begin as originally scheduled  at 9 am. All Sunday racing will air live on Big Ten Network.Â
