No. 67 MSU Women’s Tennis Hosts No. 17 Michigan in Regular Season Finale Saturday

The Spartans close out their regular season with a rivalry match in East Lansing.
EAST LANSING, Mich. – No. 67 Michigan State women's tennis hosts No. 17 Michigan in the finale of their regular season at home on Saturday, April 18, at 1 p.m.

The Spartans are slotted at No. 67 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) after a taxing weekend of matches. While the Green & White was able to take down Rutgers, 4-1 last Friday, they ultimately dropped their match against No. 44 Maryland on Sunday, by same 4-1 score.
Overall, the team stands at 11-11, with a 4-8 Big Ten Conference record.
Sophomore Ellie Blackford and senior Matilde Morais have earned a consistent season doubles ranking, currently standing at No. 57 by ITA.
The Spartans close out their regular season with their match against the Wolverines to stay in Big Ten Tournament contention.
Scouting Michigan
Michigan is currently the No. 1 team in the B1G standings, with an 11-1 conference record, just ahead of Ohio State and USC entering the final weekend of regular-season play.
The Wolverines' sole conference loss comes from the No. 2-ranked Buckeyes, who won in Ann Arbor, Mich., 4-1.
Overall, Michigan is 15-6, dropping matches only to teams ranked in the top-15 of the ITA rankings.
Saturday's match against MSU serves as the final match of the regular season for the Wolverines, who look for a win to clinch a share of the Big Ten title.
The ITA has ranked Michigan in all categories. The Lily Jones/Jessica Bernales duo is ranked at No. 26, while the Piper Charney/Emily Sartz-Lunde tandem is slotted at No. 86.
In singles rankings, three Wolverines have earned a spot in the rankings- Piper Charney at No. 11, Lily Jones at No. 31 and Reese Miller at No. 88.
Series History vs. Michigan
Over the past twenty years, the Spartans are 1-24 versus the Wolverines.
MSU's last win came during the 2002 spring season, where the Spartans battled back from dropping the doubles point and toppled Michigan on their home turf, 4-3.
Since then, the Wolverines have had a 24-match win streak, which the Green & White hope to pull off the upset this weekend.
