Roman and Terryberry Set New Personal Bests at the 44 Farms Invitational

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The Michigan State track & field team sent Dylan Terryberry and Tess Roman to compete in combined events at the 44 Farms Invitational in College Station, Texas April 9-10.
Terryberry finished fourth in the decathlon with a personal-best score of 7,425 points. The score was No. 8 all-time at Michigan State. Tess Roman finished fifth in the heptathlon, also earning a personal best with 5,499 points. Her point total was No. 2 all-time at MSU.
Decathlon
On the first day of the decathlon, Terryberry started with a ninth-place finish in the 100m with a time of 11.08. He earned 843 points in the event. He equaled his personal best in the long jump with a jump of 7.04 m, which was good for sixth place and 823 points. Terryberry continued to have a strong day in the shot put. He finished third with a season-best throw of 13.52m, which was good for 699 points. In the high jump, Terryberry once again equaled his PR with a jump of 1.84m, which was good for 11th place and 661 points. The final event of the day was the 400m, where he finished 12th with a season-best time of 50.99, which was good for 770 points.
On Friday, Terryberry started the day with a time of 15.30 in the 110m hurdles to finish eighth and earned 814 points. In the discus throw, he had a strong finish of second place with a throw 44.25m, which was a personal best. He garnered 751 points in the event. Terryberry was 12th in the pole vault (4.20m), good for 673 points. He had his best event of the meet in the javelin. He finished first with a best throw of 59.43m, which gave him 720 points. In the final event, Terryberry earned 662 points in the 1500m (4:42.97).
Heptathlon
Roman had a slow start in the in the event with a 21st place finish in the 100m with a time a of 14.92 for which she earned 852 points. Â In the high jump, she finished sixth with a personal best jump of 1.69m to capture 842 points. Â In the shot put, Roman was 10th with a throw of 12.05m, which was good for 664 points. Â In the final event of Thursday's action, she had her second-personal best of the day in the 200m. She finished 16th with a time of 26.04, earning 763 points. Â
To start Friday's action, Roman had a season best in the long jump (5.47m), which got her 691 points. She finished first in the javelin with a best throw of 47.38m. Roman earned 809 points in the event. In the final event, she finished fifth in the 800m with a time of 2:18.18, which earned her 847 points.
The Spartans head back to North Carolina for the Wake Forest Invitational April 16-17.
