NOTEWORTHY
- MSU turned its 18th double play of the season in the bottom of the first inning. It is tied for the fifth most in program history, previously accomplished in 1984, 1994 and 2000.
- Sydney Doloszycki was 3-for-3 at the plate with an RBI.
- Kendall Smiley had the only other hit for MSU on the day.
- Zoie Bernard was robbed of her third home run of the season to end the top of the second when Jayla Fuller reached over the wall in center and made an impressive catch.
- Kirsten Caravaca threw out one of two runners attempting a stolen base, pushing her total to six runners caught stealing.
- The Spartans drew five walks, their most in a Big Ten game this season. Britain Beshears was walked twice to push her season total to 24.
SCORING SUMMARIES
- After Jayla Fuller robbed Bernard of a home run to end the top of the second inning, Mia Mitchell hit a solo homer to lead off the home half to give the home team their first run on the scoreboard. Mitchell's bomb started a three-run rally; Samantha Delhoyo doubled to left, and moved to third and scored on an error. Addie Osbourne, who reached on a walk, came around to score on a sac bunt to make it 3-0. Fuller followed with a single, but was thrown out in attempting to steal second – Caravaca's sixth runner caught stealing this season.
- Rutgers added to its lead in the bottom of the third, loading the bases and getting a sac fly to plate a run to make it 4-0. The Scarlet Knights strung together three consecutive one-out hits – a pair of singles and a homer by Sam Rowher - to make it 7-0.
- The Spartans cut into the lead in the top of the fifth. Leadoff hitter Hannah Hawley was hit by a pitch and Britain Beshears followed with a walk to put two runners on. Both of the seniors were replaced by pinch hitters, and when classmate Sydney Doloszycki doubled down the left field line, Kenyatta came around to score, but Kayla Franklin was called out at third. Sophie Holverstott's ground ball moved Doloszycki over to third. Doloszycki scored MSU's second run of the game on a passed ball to make it 7-2.
- The home team loaded the bases with one out in the home half of the fifth with a pair of singles and a hit by pitch. A throwing error on a ball put in play scored a pair to make it 9-2, and Rohwer finished it with a double to left center to end the game in a 10-2 final.
